For Councils

Start Your Business Here is a project of the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC). REROC is a voluntary association of 13 General Purpose Councils and two water county councils located in the eastern Riverina region of NSW. The members of REROC are the councils of Bland, Coolamon, Cootamundra, Corowa, Greater Hume, Gundagai, Temora, Tumbarumba, Tumut, Urana and Wagga Wagga and Goldenfields Water and Riverina Water.

Start Your Business Here is an on-line, self-guided computer program that allows start-up businesses to determine what regulations and planning controls they must comply with in each of the Local Government Areas that comprise REROC. In developing the program, the participating councils reviewed the regulations they had in place with a view to amending, simplifying and/or standardising them across the REROC region.

The program itself is in two parts. The first part is the Business-User Interface based on a question and answer process, which when completed, provides the user with a listing of regulations that relate to their business including links to the relevant website and information and forms that can be downloaded. The interface starts with a home-based business filter that contains questions that relate to the appropriateness of operating the proposed business from home. The second part of the interface asks questions that specifically relate to the type of business that will be operated; at this stage there over 100 business types to choose from.

The Business-User Interface operates seamlessly on existing council websites.

The second part of the program is a windows-based Management Tool which councils use to input the information that is displayed to end-users. The Management Tool is incredibly simple to use, has enormous flexibility that will allow individual councils to easily customise the information for their LGA. The Management Tool comes pre-populated with standard data which includes information based on the regulations that are imposed on business by the NSW State Government as well as data that is reasonably standard across most councils, for example questions that relate to existing usage and outdoor dining.
